Do Snakes Fart?

Yes.

It's been a rough time in the old state..... first an earthquake, then an eclipse.
All brought to you by the letter E.
I was nonplussed by both, although it's always weird to have an earthquake here because by the time you figure out it was an earthquake, it's already over. It's not like we get many of them. It was a 4.8, which means the Planet of California is laughing at us. I had an earthquake at work, many years ago. I had the good fortune to be on the potty at the time. It started shaking and moving toward the wall and back for a while.  I figured that one out pretty quickly after dispatching the idea that the lunatics that ran that place put in vibrating commodes, or made an amusement park ride out of the bathroom. I must have been beta testing it because I had no tickets.

I saw the eclipse without glasses. Wife said blindness would only improve my outlook.
Little did she know I watched on tv. People got really excited. I didn't. All we got was brown skies, like there was going to be a tornado or something. If we want crappy weather, we don't need an eclipse - our weather is mostly crappy.

Mrs. lefty's body parts are not cooperating, meaning she's recuperating in bed all day. This means the dog is also in the bed all day. It also means I get stuck with the shopping. I suppose I should be happy I don't have to go to CostCo. But I'm not. In fact I'm not happy in general, especially when it involves doing stuff.

I knew it was going to be worse than I thought when I hit the inside glass doors and a guy on a motorized cart was completely in the way of the open doors. Why? He was rubbing down the cart, perhaps for germs. Completely blocking the entrance. Maybe he was protecting himself from snakes by using snake repellent. Perhaps he needed to block the entire entrance because that helped him with his voodoo, although I didn't see any dead chickens. Or snakes.

Soda was on sale. If you buy 2, the price is only twice what it was before the Flying AIDS. Wife laughs at me... actually she laughs at me a lot... because I don't know what things cost. This is part of a plot on my part. If I keep expressing surprise and anger, she'll leave me at home. See the magic here?

There. Was. No. Dog. Food.
Well, actually there was an entire aisle of dog food; just not our brand.
Because she's a tuna-seeking missile, we get her seafood-flavor food. The store had any flavor I wanted, so long as it was chicken and rice. In addition to seafood being her favorite, I used the price as a Flying AIDS price control: it started at $14 and went over $20 the last time they had it.

At least they had English Toffee Oreos. They're like crack (but more expensive). Nabisco will put absolutely anything in Oreos; dark chocolate, mega-stuff, oregano, etc.

Speaking of prices, by the time I checked out, it was more than the mortgage payment. In order to get the discount, I had to put in a phone number (that I haven't had for 20 years). I can remember that but don't ask me to finish a sentence with the correct word.... "That's a really nice.... dammit.... elephant? No. Parade? No. Parking job - that's it."  I asked the doctors about this and they put my mind at ease. They said I didn't have dementia or diseases.... it's normal for aging persons. Yeah, I'm really at ease now. They said forgetting where your car keys are is normal. Forgetting what they do isn't.

Johnny, Keep That Away from Your Sister's Rectum - or- Forced Vacation, Day 6

My days are getting mixed up - especially the numbers.

I was up at 5am!!!

Strictly because I was going to bed.

So naturally I'm up at 9.

  • Your love is like  giving birth to a baby, while having kidney stones

Since we've been locked in the house, we naturally have to go out for dog food. I'm getting ready, with chainsaws, machetes, and the old reliable flamethrower. And that's just to get in the car. There should be a Dog Food Lane at the store. Last time through, they only had 50lb (20oz Canadian) bags. Supply Chain Issues, of course. Penny weighs less than half that. Hopefully they have the smaller ones, or we'll have to fire up the heli-motor and visit different stores. I don't know what it's called, but I installed those hubcap accessories. You know what I'm talking about... the ones that sprout knives to shred tires of cars that get too close. People too, but don't tell anybody. I'd visit Guitar Center, but we can't keep the heli in the air that long, and it's bad form to crash your car into a house, especially from above.

The other problem with this trip is that it's messing up Mrs. lefty's coping strategy for me being home. Her coping strategy is to be on twelve hour opposite shifts from me. When I come down in the afternoon, she's just going to bed. When I go to bed, she's just coming down. This makes shopping together nigh impossible, which is actually great for me - I like shopping like SJWs like guns. Her strategy is quite similar through the year too. This is the secret to our (very) long marriage. So today we'll have to collaborate, which should be interesting. Meanwhile, the dog likes kielbasa, cornbread, and burgers.

She wants to go to Lowes. I said no's. To begin with, there are two state numbered streets required to get there. These streets were parking lots earlier in the week. The only chance we have is to wait til later, which suits me fine. She chimes in that everything will be closed then. Precisely.

Even if we survive the two streets, we'd have to survive Lowes. Even before the holiday season, they were beset by Supply Chain issues. Did you know supply chain issues also apply to staff? There's one poor, stupid, brand new employee running the place. She has to check people out, run to the back to check inventory, answer the phone, and talk on her phone to her girlfriend.

Whatcha doin?

Sucks. I gotta work.

No, right now. There are 37 people in my lane. I'm going slow so I get it right. Accuracy is important.

No. You're kidding me. Really? But I thought she wasn't allowed to own broom handles over ten feet.

The other employee comes in in a few hours. She keeps asking the customers how to operate the cash register and does anybody have the key. Meanwhile, the customers are left to help each other, which is a recipe for disaster, especially close to the holidays. Most are too busy in armed fights for the last toilet plunger to assist anybody. The lone employee gets on the p.a. system and tells everybody there's a six percent discount if you can help anybody find anything. This sometimes stops the gunfights and makes people downright pleasant.

Customer 1: Gee, those rat traps are huge. And expensive. There's only one - you take it.

Customer 2: You're too kind. But you were here first - you take it.

But only for so long...

Customer 1: I SAID YOU TAKE IT, YOU BASTARD

Then the guns come out again.

So we compromised: we're not going to Lowes today.

I'm starting to get pissed at my laptop. I had to replace the keyboard. Now I noticed that the buttons under the trackpad aren't even. As in the left button is halfway pushed down. The moment it becomes all the way down, I will send it back to the manufacturer with some dead shrimp inside. Note: this method of complaint is much more effective in the summer. It's bleedin one year old. The last one was over eight.

There is a special new organic deodorant out. It can also be used 'down there.'

Please tell me why we need a deodorant for Down There?

Oh, it has a name. One that I've completely forgotten.

I think it needs a more memorable name....

  • Twat Fresh
  • Bootylicious
  • Dick Delightful
  • Vag-a-Sweet
  • Penis Proud
  • Aromatic Asshole
  • Crotch Corrector

If I can't get canceled, maybe I can get sued.

Minds work funny. Some funnier than others. Some more neurotic than others.

Being on forced vacation, I just noticed I passed Week 1, having accomplished more or less, just about, approximately nothing. So I'm getting nervous that I only have one more week left. Are you with me here? See, I can be neurotic just like normal people!

At least I'll be able to get out of the house next week (he says, as the Universe laughs, heartily but soundlessly).

As of last week, the dog got two mice.

And when I say got, I mean he scared the shit out of them and they ran right into the trap.

Dog 2, Mice 0.

Then Wife saw two mice crossing the sidewalk.

Then Wife watched an episode of a show that was called The Mouse.

What is someone trying to tell us?

The neighbors get them too., until summer, when it's Ant Time.

I can't wait for Snow Leopard Saturdays!

You know your date is going south when....

  • You discover hers is bigger than yours
  • She wants you to sit on her lap so she can feed you because she's much bigger
  • She will wrestle you for the check
  • She wants to move in. After the first date.00000000000
  • She keeps saying you'd look really good with nipple clamps
  • She wants to talk to you about white male privilege
  • She threw out your old clothes and bought you things 'you'd look much better in'
  • You have to keep her for life because every time you try to break up, she threatens to slit her wrists
That got ugly quickly....

The Pets Are Running the Asylum

Over the past three or four days, I have spent a month in hell.  This has largely been caused by two hyper-intelligent pets, Marshall the cocker and Ren the cat.

It all started when my wife made an ill-timed decision to visit her mother for Mother's Day.  This made me a bachelor for the weekend, also courtesy of Eva Langoria not phoning or telling Adriana Lima I was temporarily available.

Don't get your panties in a knot... ever hear of a vice president?  He takes over should the president be unable to fulfill his duties.  I am investigating the possibilities of a vice wife, who would take over should the wife be unable to fulfill her wifely duties.  Although my wife understands all of this in principle, she has not signed on for the full program as yet.

I have not, however, investigated the legal ramifications of the aforementioned arrangement, so please avoid construing the above as advice.

So there we were, just the guys, all alone for the weekend.  The pets apparently took this as an opportunity to do a bit of sanity-testing on dear old dad.  Don't get me wrong - they're both incredibly sweet animals but there's an evil streak a mile wide hiding just beneath the surface.  So began my testing....

Marshall started, as usual.  He's definitely the less subtle of the two.  For the first time since we adopted him, Marshall decided he needed to go outside after we went to bed.  First at two in the morning, then again at five.  Totally unprecedented.  The third time he gave up the ruse and just went trash-picking.

Marshall prefers paper towels and tissues, for some reason nobody knows.  In fact, he prefers used ones, we shall assume for the sake of taste (yuck).  So when there's no cat food to steal, Marshall goes right for the trash can.  Being a modern household, we recycle, so there's a tall can full of cat food cans from which to pick.  He's fond of selecting one then taking it for a walk under the dining room table, after which he will microscopically hoover each and every speck of cat food that remains (which isn't much, as we rinse them out).  He will proceed to make so much noise that he always gets caught.

In case of lack of cat food cans, it's right for the main trash.  My wife outsmarted him (or so she thought) by placing a cookie sheet on top of the can.  This worked fairly well, except for when she forgot the cookie sheet.  It is said, on those jail shows, that prisoners are dangerous because they have all day every day to sit around and plot against you.  This is also the case with Marshall.  The moment we forget the cookie sheet, BOOM - he's in the trash.

Since Mommy was away, things needed to be done differently.   I tried my level best to outsmart the dog (and cat).  Much to my chagrin, I walked into the kitchen just in time to see that Marshall had figured out how to move the cookie sheet over enough to allow him access to the tasty trash.  At Marshall's last vet visit, they asked if he had a weird diet because they found paper towels in him (don't ask how).

The wife describes watching the cat leap onto the table and push treats off for the dog.  Ain't sibling love grand?

Of course we had the generic Pet Food Ballet, which is the foundation upon which both of the lovely little bastards build their entire horror show.  I fed Ren in the kitchen and boy was he excited.  I closed the doors and went to feed Marshall.  As soon as he heard the dog food hitting the bowl, Ren opened the kitchen doors and went sprinting for his brother's kibble.  Ever the co-conspirator, Marshall ran for the kitchen and the Cat Food of Life.  There is absolutely nothing Marshall likes more than cat food.

I did the first thing I always do: yell at both of the little buggers.  This had a predictable effect, in that it had absolutely no effect at all.  When I put the cat food bowl away and walked out of the kitchen, Marshall went right for the trash, once again pushing aside the cookie sheet.  If I installed a combination lock on the trash can, Ren would figure out the combination and show Marshall, who would never fail to use it.

So there we were, with just one bowl of dog food and one cat trying to eat it.  You can yell at the cat but that has roughly the same effect as yelling at your car.  You can throw things at the cat but that does precious little also.  No, the cat knows you're not serious unless you actually get up and leap at him, so he will not detach from the dog food bowl until he sees you in motion.  When he eventually does move, he's back in under a minute, as if you meant don't eat the dog food at that precise minute.  So I put the bowl on the coffee table, where neither of them could get it.  Well, neither of them except for the cat, who kept leaping at it without regard for the fact that I was five feet away.

After I got done yelling at Ren, I turned around to find Marshall in the trash.  Again.  MARSHALL - GET OUT OF THERE.  Just for fun I tried it in a more growly register, which seemed to have the desired effect.

And this was Saturday.

We hit the mattress at our usual hour, whatever that was.  Marshall was specifically instructed not to do a repeat performance of his dual wakeup alert technology so naturally he got me up at one thirty and six.  I was not amused.  And Marshall usually doesn't play semantics.

On Sunday we largely performed Saturday's activities over again, including dog food, cat food, used paper towels and plenty of frenzied yelling and threats to find new homes for the lot of them.

Marshall got to do his other favorite thing, which is ride in the car.   Another resident of the hood had the bad timing to walk his Husky by the car as we were getting in.  Marshall went batshit and started bouncing off the windows.  This gorgeous little hissy fit lasted five to ten minutes, long after we were out of site of the Husky.  My dog whines like a little girl.   Even after suggesting he get his vagina examined he continued to whine.

When Mommy came home it was time to pretend everything was normal.  Mommy plays right into this farce with aplomb during her many trips to the front steps to smoke.  Going out the front door is apparently some sort of Secret Canine and Feline Signal to begin misbehaving.  I just had to physically retrieve Marshall from the trash.

Yes, I understand that this is partially the fault of the owners.  I blame my wife: if she hadn't gone away, the pets would have performed their minimum daily requirement of chaos.  Instead they somehow felt they had to ramp things up and grow red horns.

Tonight's dinner included fish.  We all know what fish smells like, right?  Cat food.  In fact, Marshall's Indian name is Smells Like Cat Food.  As the wife went out to smoke, closing the door, the pets went into action.  The dog took a leap for the kitchen as the cat took a leap toward the fish.  It was perfectly choreographed.

As I type this, my wife is out front again.  The dog, for some reason, is not happy with this arrangement and started squeaking at the door.  The cat is still eating the dog food and the dog is walking toward the trash can, as if I didn't just physically pull him from it.

It could be worse: things could be sane.
