Raiders of the Lost Sequels II

Your love is like  random STDs

It killed me when I heard stories about dads coming to all their kids' games.

Until I realized that not only didn't I have a dad, I didn't have any games.

Today I identify as  yet another Windows flaw that's being exploited NOW

But seriously, not having a father figure definitely hurt me in some ways. Definitely in sports. Kids are cruel, especially if you don't know which way to run with the ball.

Maybe that's why I picked up the guitar. They told me guitar players got all the chicks. Thirty years later, I'm still waiting for them. At least playing was something I could work on by myself, and didn't involve me hurling myself at concrete (or other players). Eventually I got onstage and discovered I loved it there. I also discovered the spotlight. The real, actual spotlight. It was so bright, I couldn't see the first row of the audience, then I couldn't see the rest of the week. First time onstage we caused a small riot in the auditorium; everybody rushed the stage. At the next school, we were two chords into the first song, and groups of teachers were fleeing the auditorium. Sometimes when I practiced at home with my trusty Marshall amp, the police would visit. At first I thought they were really into the sounds of my playing. Then they told me if I didn't turn it down, they'd help me. So I had all sorts of interesting reactions to my playing. The last place I worked had shows, and I'd run around like someone set me on fire. A coworker said, "lefty, you sure are.... different... onstage." One of my greatest compliments. This is precisely why 20 left handed guitars are not enough. Must. Have. More.

So we never had kids. We paid our debt to society. A direct quote from an old girlfriend: "I would never have your kids because they might turn out like you." Well, she had a point..... plus, let's face it... I'm not really fond of the little ankle biters. Mrs. lefty is pretty good with them, but having one was just not a good idea (she has enough internal ones). Hell, we can barely take care of ourselves. The UN had a program just for me, to make sure I didn't reproduce. I got free contraception from age 13. I still get boxes in the mail and I still can't use them right.

Which is why I have Iqbal, my service elephant. I picked him out of 20. I scanned the whole herd and as soon as our eyes met, we knew we were right for each other. Unfortunately certain businesses, especially airlines, refuse to respect service elephants. Iqbal becomes sad, then enraged. He also had to stop trumpeting because it started the dog barking, as does any loud noise. He can still play the flute, which you'd think would be handy on airplanes, although his mask is a real bastard to put on and there's always some Karen insisting he wear it.

Speaking of which, the British store Sainsbury's has denied a man entry with his service cat. Wait til they meet Iqbal...

You know my extreme dislike of government and its constant expansion. With that in mind, the White House has introduced the Department of Backpedaling. It's a very large, full time department, which spends its time walking back most of what President Taxit says. When Biden said the US would defend Taiwan if China attacked it, the Department of Backpedaling got into the fray quickly. When the president said Putin cannot remain in power as Russia's municipal lifeguard, the Department was right there. They expect to be called into action later today, when Biden gives his opening remarks about the Chinese Olympics.

Speaking of the president's random actions, he met with BTS, an Asian boy band, to tackle anti-Asian hate. Later tomorrow, he will meet with an anthill in back of the White House, to tackle ant invasions in the summertime. Later this week, he will meet with the wind to tackle hurricanes. Then he's going to Disneyland.

Automatic trash continues. It's where the trashcans return themselves to their normal positions after the trash trucks come around. The thing is, there's still one can left on the curb. We don't know why.

Speaking of automatic, the new mower has arrived. I'm excited because it's blue. She's excited because it's power-assist. I'm unhappy because it's a mower. I'm also unhappy because it won't power-assist itself out of the fscking box. It's heavy.

What might be cool is an automatic power-assist remote hybrid. You sit in a comfortable chair with a joystick and direct the mowing. It would be like some sort of retarded satanic virtually real reality video game.

So what have we here?

A large instruction manual. In many languages, because I'm multi-lingual. It's written for normals, so I have trouble. Can't even get the bastard going. Ah, the upper treadle mannisquire is obviously askew and won't engage the safety bypass, disallowing operation. After yanking the stupid arms up, I'm faced with the starting procedure. I haven't had a car that took this many steps to start. Hold the blue button with your left arm or your penis, whichever is closer, but hold it from underneath the poles. Then pull the lever. Oh, did you remember to charge the batteries first? Yes, batteries. This buggy is serious. They shoulda put a car battery in it. Although my experience with car batteries leaves me thankful they put rechargables in. The batteries are 24 volts, as if this matters. It's the current, not the voltage, but ad claims are ad claims, like the 1200a vacuums.

Somehow, by grand mistake or incredible coincidence, I get the bugger started. It cuts the grass, which is my main objective. Eventually I figure out the self-propelled feature... it engages via yet another lever (next to the spinning blade). VOOM - the sucker takes off. It's probably not a good thing to have to race your mower across the lawn. Somehow this is not what I imagined. The old mower only did 13" and you could throw it across the street. This one does a manly 21" and you can barely push it.  Somehow the tradeoff will not work for Mrs. lefty, who enjoys mowing (!!!) but can't push (or pull).  I have to admit I used the propelled feature to help out. The machine is also unstoppable. It breezed right through the forest that tried to eat the dog the other day. This would have stopped the old mower completely. I think it ate a few trees that used to annoy me.

It came with a grass catcher bag but I'm not sure why. Who in their right mind, or wrong mind, wants to collect the mowed grass? What do you do with it - donate it to people with no lawn? Plus you have to empty the thing whenever it gets full. It's just another annoyance, like listening to people tell you about the DeppHeard trial. There's a reason 'mow' rhymes with 'no'.

By the time it was done, I was impressed, but more importantly, crippled and sweating, like a good-looking hetero guy at the Pride parade. I slammed some Coke and took up position in front of a fan for an hour or two. I further proved that I can nap under any circumstances.

President Taxit stepped up to the plate on Long Covid, suggesting it all be converted to Short Covid, so there's only one Covid to deal with. His advisors said, "Nice going, Brandon," and put him back in his case.

Faceyspaces news

Lord Zuck surfs every day, to wash off the tons of negative press he receives.

Hitler didn't surf.

TikTok is taking away a lot of Faceyspaces users. It's getting so bad that people are livestreaming their shootings and crimes on TikTok instead of Faceyspaces.

  • It was interesting to be out recently, seeing a few people with masks. Good on them - it's their choice.
  • It was sad to go to a mall with long lines of stores closed. They should sue the governor for mandating closures. It probably wouldn't fly, but it would be nice.

While at the mall, I saw electric car charging stations in the parking lot. This was my first time (I'm not lying when I say I don't get out a lot). I took a look - the charges were free. Regardless of cost, there's still the cost of electricity generation. I have no opinion on how green this is, but I'd like an accounting of the 'green' cars; including charging electricity generation, electricity required for manufacturing, battery cost, and battery disposal. Plus battery replacement, if necessary. I suspect things aren't as green as stated. Interestingly, there is already a hack on chargers.

The abortion ban in Texas is draconian. Unfortunately, Texas is so large, women may have to travel quite a distance to other states. Philadelphia imposed a huge tax on luxury cars, so all the dealers moved just across the city line, into the suburbs. I guess this will help Texas women to some degree.

LG lithium ion car batteries have been discovered to spontaneously combust, causing engine fires, and are under the federal microscope. I dunno about you, but I'd add this to the negatives when you decide whether electric cars are for you. Let's see - no internal combustion to add to climate change. With regular cars, it's what we know, plus the batteries don't blow up. It's a tough choice. With current cars, you can replace a part or a battery. With electric, you can replace batteries that run the width of the car, for only $5,000 plus. But you can also stand outside the dealer's shop and see if they blow up.  It's a very difficult choice.

The car industry’s multibillion-dollar bet on electric vehicles was built on a single premise: that batteries would carry on getting cheaper.  Yeah, you tried that with albums and CDs. How did that work out?

So I'm minding my business after work, when the day's best idea hit me: a nap.
While I (and the dog) are settling in, British tv is on. I'm starting to drift off when I hear "the business of sex." I would be a bad anglophile if I didn't pay attention. It was only moments til I saw a 65-ish year old transvestite, masturbating, fully without the benefit of clothing. HANG ON a tic..... this was going to require my undivided attention, so I put settling down for the nap off a bit. You know how there are many words that don't mean the same thing in the US and UK? I spent some time working on 'transvestite.' She advertises as a transvestite, but she has two rather large, obvious bolt-on breasts and one vagina. In the US, a transexual may have the midsectional plumbing redone; no idea about the UK.

So there she was, naked and touching herself. Good for her, making a buck.
I rejoiced, not because the 65 year old transvestite was masturbating, but because the citizens of the UK were 'allowed' to see it on tv. I thought perhaps because of the subject matter, they figured people wouldn't watch it, so I hung in for anything else that might, you know ...come up  ....in the show.  The next bit involved a 50-something lady (CIS hetero), who, it seems, had men come by and made videos of them Doing Stuff with her. Her husband (you knew it was coming, right?) was older and played on his laptop while the fun was being had. I guess she makes the house payments. They showed a bit of this also. Considering my orientation, it was a bit better for me than the transvestite. At some point there was a naked old man, who was getting ready to participate in  .....something or other.  Maybe it was the Laptop Guy, having a go at his own wife.

As the UK will tell you, the US is depraved (I prefer to pronounce it 'deprived').
It's not like I want to watch the over 60 set, in any configuration, having sex on tv, but I'd like to have the option.

The guitarist who saved hundreds of people on a sinking cruise liner

What do you do when the ship is sinking, the officers have taken the first lifeboat and run away, and the captain is in mental shutdown, smoking in the dark? Haul out the guitarist! He got people in lifeboats, called Mayday, and helped with the helicopter rescues. Talk about hero.....    (never mind that he put a Kahler on a Les Paul)       --- Guitarists: we're good to have around.

Our Automatic Trashcans have again done their duty and put themselves back in their place after the trash trucks were done with their rounds. We're intensely curious. I guess our friendly neighbor is doing it because Mrs. lefty has trouble getting around. This, of course, means they think I no longer live in the house. Perhaps I need to get out and argue more with the neighbors or something.

Who do they think they are - the president? But they're right - I have yet to see a single Asian person on or off the field.

I get the impression that nobody's watching over the security of power generation, or they're asleep at the wheel. There are a lot of stories about power stations getting hacked. This terrifies me. The industry needs to wake up. Now.

12:00 noon (even in Canada)

My phone is making those ALERT ALERT ALERT noises. Nothing good ever comes from an ALERT noise. I hope it's not an alert about those yellow children - it's such a shame. No, wait, it's a weather ALERT. Considering that our paid forecasters have an accuracy rate of somewhat lower than the odds in Vegas, I don't hold out much hope for the yellows.

So let's see... there's some sort of squall by 1:00. Of course there is - it's (temporarily) bright outside. Plus I'm not sure what a squall is. Is that the little bird people hunt? Why would they need a warning about that? Seems like unfair advantage to the hunters.

12:30 ALERT ALERT ALERT

Apparently the squalls are running late, owing to a problem on a 737 where some guy doesn't want to wear a mask and keeps referring to the captain as Sissy Bob. This should put the squall overhead by 1:30.

3:30 ALERT ALERT ALERT

Just when I had had it with squalls, it turns out this is a SNOW squall, which might be a white version of the aforementioned bird. Apparently there are so many of them, there will be whiteout conditions (out of the blue). This will happen by 4:30, or until you hear the next ALERT ALERT ALERT.  It's still almost sunny outside, so this is the perfect condition for squalls, snow, sleet, slush, birds, and flying white Lincolns.

GO AHEAD - tell me there are no advantages to being an amateur agoraphobic. I was before the Flying AIDS. I was during the Flying AIDS. And now I was during the Great Squalls of National Women's History Month.

Today's Useless Fact

Less than 1% of the population has violet eyes. At one time, everybody had brown eyes. Color is a function of melanin, with other than brown eyes having less. Out of the other colors, green is the most rare.  Elizabeth Taylor was supposed to have violet eyes, but it was caused by lighting; her eyes were blue.

We have a really large jar of vinegar. I'm not sure why.
You know what's coming, right?
I came down this morning to the smell of....... bleach, and towels on the floor.
As it was explained to me, the dog launched herself into the kitchen, broke the seal on the new, gallon-size vinegar bottle, and knocked it over, spreading it all over the place.
I think the bleach smell was to get rid of the vinegar smell.
Don't ask me - I just live here.

*If you have a battery-operated device and the batteries have leaked, remove them and soak a Q-tip with distilled vinegar. Wipe the battery contacts down. They will come up like new and the device will work with batteries.

So we have the Zombie Dishes, where I wash them and they reappear in the sink, dirty. It's most disconcerting. The other day I noticed something even more strange: Automatic Trashcans. I drag them to the curb, and figured Wife put them back. Today she told me she didn't. Now we're looking at each other strangely (moreso). Zombie Dishes cause more work, but Automatic Trashcans cause less work. We thought it might be our friends, but ours went back hours before theirs. Now we're flummoxed. It's definitely not the dog because she's always with us. I don't hear them moving, which is a little odd. Don't get me wrong - I'm thankful, but I'd like to know who to thank. One doesn't exactly go down the block, bashing pots and pans together, saying "THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE CANS BACK," like a one-lunatic parade (let's just say that one doesn't do that twice).

Who does one hire to check up on trashcans? Private investigator? Priest? Native American? Out of work circus clowns? Do I put trackers in them? Small video recorders? Can you imagine the call to the police? If the good-doer has a wand and BLIPs them away, I guess the video won't work. I could get a house video system, but I don't want Amazon to know before I do. At very least I want to thank them and maybe ask if they'd trade for mowing season, which is coming up.

NASA Astronaut Back on Earth After Russia Joked About Leaving Him in Space
Because of Putin's invasion of Ukraine, there were questions about how our astronaut would get back from the Space Station. Russia said they would, under certain considerations:
  1. he let everyone call him Stoli
  2. he refer to Biden as an idiot (along with the other 74% of the country)
  3. he drink the cosmonauts under the table, with something called wodka
  4. he wear a diaper on the way down, in that old, rickety Russian ship
  5. he only breathe American air, not Russian
  6. he start a 'special friendship' with one of the cosmonauts
  7. have the landing changed to somewhere easier to spell than Kazakhstan
