What Doesn't Kill Me Makes Me VERY Angry

Your love is like  overcooked popcorn smell in the microwave (and your entire house)

most popcorn experiments in my youth turned out rather badly. For some reason, the stove popcorn tended to blow up and catch on fire, like a Tesla.

Today I identify as   Millard Fillmore, late president and inspiration for the Fillmore East and Fillmore West concert venues. Guess which half of that I made up.

I'm looking at a food wrapper with the words "Italian Style Meats" on it.
Is this the same as calling Olive Garden "Real Imitation Italian-Style food?"
American cheese is "Pasteurized Processed American Cheese food product"
Pizza Hut is "pizza indistinguishable in taste from its box".

I guess it's some sort of Truth in Labeling law.
It's a shame other things don't have labels....
  • Hyundai/Kia: $250 tires and kids can hack into it
  • Tesla: Do Not Enter - On Fire or will be soon
  • Labradoodle: Invent-A-Breed!
  • Crocs: When you need people to know you're an idiot
  • belly shirts: Hey fat chicks - don't let the haters get you down - huge bellies are HOT!

I just got RAPED.
Well, not physically, but my butt hurts.
In reference to above, Hyundai/Kia are made in the same factory. Recently a video showed up on TikTok on how to hack the cars. Strangely I never received a call from the dealer. Last night the key fob was either abducted by aliens or decided to follow all my dark wash into some other dimension. This made it extremely difficult to drive the car. Or get into the car. Since I don't have a TikTok account (the Chinese keep trying to steal my data. And my house.) I can't even hack into it.

The gentleman who showed up to help told us this was going to be expensive, if he could even pull it off. It seems Hyundai/Kia has taken advantage of the hack to raise prices through the fscking roof, and there are very few to be had. Thank you, Hyundai/Kia; may you experience this in your own cars. Without getting too specific, the fscking fob was $400. The little fscking key insert was $200. I tabled my plans for a backup set, just like I tabled plans for more guitars. It almost seems to be a race to spend MY money: everything else, or me. I am generally the last to cross the finish line. If you watch closely, you can see me beating myself about the head and shoulders with the baton.

I need to emphasize this never happened when we had manual locks, manual start, but fortunately not manual windows. And THE CLOUD [religious fanfare]. I foresee ten years into the future, where you will have to fingerprint scan, face scan, iris scan, and voice your Social Security number to unlock the car. You don't want to know what it will take to start the car.

Stay tuned for more of The lefty Show, when all the windows in the house spontaneously decide they like it outside better and spring out of their frames, to the ground. When the 25lb dog goes up against the 150lb Lab and 100lb Pit, causing thousands of dollars of vet bills. At least the Lab and Pit will run away when they see her again. When the car's computer decides it doesn't like the new key and refuses to speak to it anymore. When said computer tries to run Windows and turns into a brick, turning the car into a brick. A nice-looking brick. When the fence pulls an AUNTIE EM AUNTIE EM and flies away into the sky, taking our garage with it. When we think for a moment and realize we don't have a garage.  When old lefty gives up and just laughs insanely until they bury him. Possibly after.

Space dust that regularly hits Earth could contain proof of alien life

I have the key to life, the universe, and everything, all over my house!

Meanwhile at home.....

ACHOO

Bless you.

Thank you.

Maybe you're allergic to dust.

If I were allergic to dust, I'd have been dead a long time ago.

You know how there's always one guy who doesn't get the joke?

FBI: Rent-a-Hitman site nabbed Air National Guardsman who was “excited” to kill

Yes, this gag site snared a not-too-bright fellow, who wanted to be a hitman. Someone should have explained to him that his particular talent was only to be reserved for his country, not for rent. Or go to the dark web. Unfortunately he couldn't find the dark web with detailed crayon drawings.

He probably got caught when he tried to pick up some FBI chicks at a bar. He bragged to them he was a hitman, on the Hitman 'R' Us social network. Or the FBI sent him a snail mail invitation to the Be A Hitman in 90 days website. It must've been a slow week.

NOTE to laptop manufacturers: put the mic and headphone jacks toward the rear of the unit. The cables always get in the way.

New Zealand, known mainly for an accent sounding like Australia's, was minding its own business, getting ready for the cat-killing competition for children, when there was 'a bit of an objection.'

I have questions.
  1. What enlightened soul thought this would be a good idea?
  2. What enlightened soul thought this would be a good idea for children?
  3. What enlightened soul's boss approved this?
  4. Have these people never heard of the internet?
The boss' boss got involved after the small objection.
The good thing was that there was not going to be a cat shooting.
The bad thing was that he gave it back to the same 2 nincompoops to fix.

They came up with new ideas.
  • cat owner shooting
  • shooting the children
  • tripping and falling over terminal hospital patients
  • pushing pregnant women down steps

New Zealand cabinet reaches gender equality for the first time

This explains the cat shooting. Because it's not the product, it's the gender equality of the producers. Somebody's taking President Giveaway too seriously.

Apple is going to start scanning your iPictures for child exploitation images.
They never asked you, did they?
Everybody is against child exploitation (except for the exploiters), right?
This is frequently the reason used to start accessing something someone shouldn't be accessing. It's for the children.
But if they can access your pictures, what else can they scan for? Why is this even an issue? Should they have the right to scan your pictures at all, say, for naked, perfectly legal pictures? And your documents.
The short (and long) answer is NO.
The government isn't allowed to do this because of the 4th Amendment (search and seizure).
Apple, being a commercial entity, can do what it wants, and fervently believes it leads the pack and knows what's best for you.
This is one of the reasons I don't use Apple devices personally: you don't own your music or data or operating system. While android has more eyes on your device than you think, it's not scanning and not clouding everything.
Think about it.... none of us have these images on our phones, but we have freedom from anybody spying on us.

The Universal Panacea

I'm talkin about coffee. Go juice. Brown liquid. Instant humanizer. Get movinger. That magic elixir.

You gotta wonder how someone figured out coffee... hmmm... beans.... I'll bet if I crushed them up and poured hot water over them, they'd produce a good-tasting way to get myself going in the morning (and the rest of the day). I also wonder about tobacco... hey, if I picked it, dried it out, put all sorts of chemicals in it, rolled it up and lit it, it would be pleasing (and addictive). Where do these ideas come from? Probably demented minds, one or two short steps from the Happy Place<tm>. The booby hatch. Rubber room. Laughing academy.

I had a friend without benefits once.

So early ways to make coffee involved those huge canisters, with the green plastic valves on them, that served small conventions. Then the one your parents used: the drip. This also described one or two of your friends. Their personalities were such that no one wanted to be around them. They sucked all the air out of the room, like someone with Borderline Personality Disorder. The drip coffee makers are still around, but you have to show proof that you're over 65 to use one. The drip method sometimes evolved to the drop method, depending on how wet your hands were, or your General Klutziness Coefficient.

Starting in the 70s (or 80s - too lazy to look it up), everybody got a Mr. Coffee. Mr. Coffee? As if some guy, probably dressed as a butler, came to your house and made you coffee - up to 12 cups at a time. And we saw that it was good. Plus 12 cups was almost as much as needed to get through the day. The only problem was that you had to keep it heated all this time, and by the end of the day it turned into some sort of brown sludge that never came off the pot and was only slightly suitable for human consumption. Due to Science, there was always coffee left over, no matter how many pots you made or how many people drank it. Worse was its use at work. No matter how many people drank it, and this includes the ones that didn't pay into the Coffee Fund, NOBODY ever cleaned it out. This either resulted in one person always washing it, or just sludge on top of sluge, until there was no more room for the actual coffee, it had a nice blue fuzzy sheen on the top, and coworkers would regularly vomit upon sight of it. The sheer genius of Mr. Coffee's manufacturer was that they used filters, at one per pot. So you'd have to replace them often (hopefully every pot).

Variations of Mr. Coffee also appeared, mostly the single and two cup varieties. These were for people who didn't require 12 cups. Single people. Sad little humans, who stopped using them when they discovered they would always have to clean it, regardless of anyone else. The ones that kept it clean you had to strenuously avoid because of grave personality defects and weird genitalia.

In the 90s (plus or minus 20 years), the Foo Foo stuff started to appear, like the French Press. The Bench Press. The Double Triangle, that used more filters than your car's engine. The Upside Down Triple Press, which was responsible for more burns in a single year than hot water and working on radiators combined.

These all had one thing in common: they brewed shitty coffee. No matter how you changed around the variables, it wasn't drinkable, except for certain salesmen at work, usually involving used cars and men with checkered suits.

Round about this time, Dunkin Donuts was going strong, for the people who went out because making coffee was beyond their abilities. They started carrying beans, at which time you discovered that no matter how you played with them, you couldn't make it taste like it did from Dunkin itself, like pizza and cheesesteaks. Then appeared [holy music] Starbucks. Yes, Starbucks: home of the bitter, overroasted, overcharged beans. You could even buy a pastry, for 4 times what Dunkin charged. These stores popped up all over the place, like a Flying AIDS epidemic, only without the masks. They were even in supermarkets and places that did car repairs, as well as fine clothing shops and eyebrow boutiques. They eventually realized they might've overdone it, so they closed the stores that were inside Dunkin Donuts. They had really good ice and cream drinks, but the rule was Don't Drink the Coffee (unless you were a pretentious prick, like some of the people behind that counter who referred to themselves as Baristas). You were not a Hollywood star unless you had a Starbucks cup in your hand whenever you were seen. This was eventually replaced with water bottles filled with vodka.

Then came one of the greatest inventions known to modern man: the Keurig.
For a ridiculously inflated price, you could buy a coffee maker. You'd stick these little plastic pods in them and hit GO. Even if the coffee was shit, YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO CLEAN IT. And believe me, most of the coffee is shit. But the ease of use is through the roof, unless you're still too confused and have to go to Dunkinbucks. You can't make more than a cup at a time, but it will go on forever. By the time your party is over, you'll still be making coffee. I'd still do it - as an introvert, I'm much happier pushing a button to make coffee than talking to people. I have the coffee pods trucked in weekly... it's my only indulgence (unlike SHOES, Dear). Apparently the used coffee grounds are good for plants. Either that or we've been the victim of a cruel and hysterical joke. Because we have the used pods all over the house, including bathrooms, so Wife can pull them apart and put the grounds in plants. She also puts bits of plastic, Drano, and handfuls of dust into plants; not because she heard it was a good thing.. but because she likes to.

This has also created a larger market for creamers, especially the flavored ones. There's coconut, Almond Joy, salted (naturally) caramel, broccoli, and 5W40 motor oil. In fact, the only creamer you have to order specially is the regular old cream.  Don't get me started on pumpkin spice....

I have a cup a day, at least until my face touches the work computer, at which point a second cup is required. The only problem with the pods is that they won't make 2 cups at once. If I could do this, my work would improve greatly, avoiding the time needed to make the second cup.  Maybe a dual-headed Keurig, which would look like some sort of sex toy used by people in Washington, DC, and New Old Swaziland (now called Iraq), where all forms of sex have been prohibited. If I make 2 cups one after the other, my mug has to be the size of a Volkswagen and even then it comes to the top. If I adjust the size of the Keurig's output, I can get two cups down to the size of the couch. This may or may not be sufficient to get my work done, assuming there are no cushions on the couch or loose change inside.

Just when we thought we were mostly free of the rental debacle, we got notice of a toll fee of $25, which was a toll of $16 and a service fee of $9. In order to come up with a toll of $16, we'd have to do a day's driving to the boondocks of PA. As for a service fee, are you kidding me? I should get a service fee for renting one of their cars. Out of all the slimy stuff they pulled....

US stock exchange sets diversity rules for listed companies

A lot of times, it's just downright goofy. This is the Stock Exchange, fer chrissake.

The directors should include one person who identifies as female and another as an underrepresented minority or LGBTQ+.

Time to Make the Haggis

Your love is like  a smattering of semen sausages

Hello, is this 1-800-ADDICTION?

Yes, how can we help you?

I was thinking of an addiction.

What kind of addiction do you have?

Oh, I don't have one. I was thinking of picking one up.

You want an addiction?

Absolutely.

Why would you want an addiction?

Well, it's kind of a cool, popular thing these days.

There is nothing cool about addiction, Sir.

Sure there is. All sorts of famous people pop in and out of facilities. Defendants blame their addictions for their crimes. Some of those places look like great holidays.

It's not a holiday.

Sure it is. Sun, pools, famous addicted people.

Sir, it involves a lot of work.

Yeah, but I could get Disability if I have an addiction.

Not just any addiction.

Well, can I start out with something easy, then go pro? I mean, what do the popular people start out with? Something easy, but comical to watch. Alcohol?

You can choose alcohol, but it takes years to really get good at it.

Cocaine?

Coke is a good starter addiction, but it's very expensive.

Heroin?

Heroin is nasty - save that for the really big rock stars.

Crack?

Crack is cheap, easy to get, and highly addictive.

Sounds like I might want to save that for later.

What about pot?

Pot isn't really an addiction.

But it's a drug.

Well, at the rate it's being decriminalized, no one will take you seriously.

Downers?

Downers are a good start. You can get hooked on them in high school. Usually the only problem is that you're too stupid to know you're addicted. A judge might have to put you into the program.

Acid?

Kinda passe.

Chocolate?

Chocolate is the very best addiction, but you have to be separated from the rest of the population because most of the serious addicts crave chocolate.

Pea soup?

I think you have an idea there, sir.  Since most people hate it, they'll hardly bother you. And you can call it an addiction. After a few stays, you can work your way up to pills. Depending on who else is in the program, you can get some tips on coke and maybe alcohol.

How do I get in?

Walk up to the front doors.

That won't do; I like to make an impression. I'll put pea soup all over my face, drive the wrong way down I-95, then ask a state trooper if he wants to fight. I need some cred...

Things are going well with the Flying AIDS vaccines.

There have been some small side effects, like arms falling off, nipples falling off, infection in that spot between your anus and genitals, left nostril hair fallout, sudden niceness, ability to dance, rapid ear hair growth, little brown worms coming through your skin, and sudden desire to watch the 700 Club.

Be safe.

In addition to the vaccine, our friends at the FDA authorized a non-prescription Flying AIDS test, for you hypochondriacs. You can take one in the morning and one at night. If you've gone out shopping, you can take one when you get back. They're available in 28 packs for the particularly neurotic. You are warned to look out for fake Flying AIDS tests - instead of swabbing your nose, you are instructed to shove it up your ass.

We strongly urge you not to mix up your Flying AIDS test with your pregnancy test. Most people would do well to avoid both conditions.

Today's a good day to have a birthday, being the birthday of the Reverend Billy Gibbons and Robben Ford. Tis a day of taste and tone.

Dear lefty
  • Do I have to clean the snow off the top of my car?
  • no, but neither does the truck in front of you

It's SNOWING

Best Snow Line So Far: Well, Bob, as you can see, traffic is flowing freely, which likely won't be the case when the snow hits. Runner up: A nor'easter went through the Northeast....

To our demented friends with PTSD, who are raiding the stores, STOP. The worst we've ever seen is being snowed in for 2 days. If you don't have 2 days' food, you have other issues to discuss. If you find yourself in a store, stock up on popsicles and ice cream, so if there's a power outage, you can store them outside and you'll have plenty to eat.

The city of Philadelphia has over 200 snow trucks and is ready to go.
This should make everybody feel better when streets are not plowed. as they were not last year, when there were over 100 snow trucks.  Snow always seems to be a surprise to Philly, even when the past week's news has been nothing but SNOW -PANIC!

We know things are absolutely on point because we cannot get a weather forecast to line up with any other weather forecast, so we just watch the forecaster with the largest mammalian protuberances.

The most bizarre thing so far is virtually-educated children demanding a snow day. I tried this with my boss last year: he filed it with all my other Great Ideas.

The forecaster with the largest mammalian protuberances says it's going to be very cold, so bring your pets in. Penny agrees, or would agree, but she's wrapped up in a blanket, napping with her mother. I'm giving you fair warning: if your pets are outside, I'll come stay with you for a week or so...

The Emergency Management Agency put out a bulletin telling people to keep off the roads. Because we're a bright lot, and need to be told to stay off the roads when there's 12" of snow.

As the 11pm news started, the talking head said they had coverage of the entire area and showed the reporters: 3 women with furry parkas and masks; the Stepford Reporters.

Philly fitted trash trucks with plows. This was a mistake.. now the plows won't show up either.

Do you really want to meet the news staffer who determined it had been 1,000 days since the last heavy snow? This is the guy you get sat next to at parties.

In good news, shootings have gone way down. It's not so much guns don't work in the snow, as gun operators don't work in the snow.

Every time this crap starts, one of the little voices reminds me it snows very little in Arizona.

Epilog

12" turned out to be more like 4". There are very few times of year I'm happy for the nearly 100% error rate of forecasters, but I'll take this. Men all over the world are happy for women who don't know the difference between 4" and 12".

Meanwhile, I continued, unmolested, but only because it was Office Hours. I could feel her, in the next room, vibrating with the things she was going to tell me I had to do with a shovel (most of them outside). She's a clever she, she is, and found this... thing... to clean snow from cars without scratching them. Me, I'm not fond of even washing cars, but since this one is about 5 days old, I'd rather not scratch it up (I still won't wash it). This thingie is a mop with the bottom made out of... something... that better not scratch cars. To add a little incentive, she's watching TMZ, which would chase me out of the house if there was a tornado.

Considering I work from home, there isn't any urgent reason to clean the car - it's not like we need to go anywhere.  I STAND CORRECTED: one of us has to go somewhere. The other will clean off the car, cuz it's not worth the grief to find out why it's necessary to drive somewhere on the day of Snowmageddon. The fact that She Who Must Be Obeyed said so is good enough for me.

BUT WAIT!!!!
Then there's the trash cans, stranded on the invisible sidewalk, then the sidewalk itself. Then the zombie dishes, which have come back from the clean in record numbers. Perhaps some dog shaving. Perhaps some neighbor shaving. I'm getting a lot of pressure to remove the 1974 Camaro from the living room... damn...  I thought that thing was supposed to be invisible after 3 days. Well, 20 years is a good run. But if the car goes, I'll need a new place to hide the bodies. Some of them are rather recent, so this should be done after dark (which comes around 3pm these days). All in all, the neighborhood has been a lot quieter lately, so the neighbors don't ask a lot of questions.

The news had footage of the inevitable vehicle struck by a train. You have to have some interesting mental abnormalities to get hit by a train in the first place, but you're minus 30 points for the train here. The whistle itself wakes people at the next stop. The clanging and dinging has caused 23 employees of a nearby convenience store to request a store in a quieter place, like Iraq. Even deaf people are aware a train is coming - so we know the problem is not notification. The problem is obviously the nut holding the steering wheel. It's about to be 2021 and some of us still haven't figured out one does not race a train (and win). To make things more interesting, this was a box truck. People are generally unaware of Philly's famous Box Truck Racing network. The races are every weekend, on streets not patrolled often by the police. When the police found out about the box truck racing, they stopped patrolling the area because how much trouble could you get into at 20mph tops? So the 20mph truck lost the race to the train. Who woulda thought?

Congress is threatening action, which is a bad thing. This time it's on another 'stimulus' round, meaning more unemployment checks for people and Congress' favored businesses. No matter how many times I ask politicians, no one has told me who will pay for this.

I'm not as heartless as I seem: I believe everyone who can should contribute. To have it stolen in taxes is ridiculous, and just another day in Congress. To start, we can have the taxes eliminated - that would certainly stimulate. We can also limit checks to people who are actually unemployed; I will gladly forego 'free money.' But this also includes Congress' friends.  When the concept of getting rid of checks to dead people came up, Congress wanted to phase it out over a few years. Does this tell you all you need to know?

Captivity - Day 77 Law & Order SUV

AstraZeneca is going to start making an anti Flying AIDS vaccine. Not sure how they know what will work, but who needs facts - there's money involved. Because the giant pharmaceutical company is so poor, this vaccine is backed by Bill Gates.  Bill Gates is a war criminal. This is the man who gave us Windows. Would you trust a vaccine from him?

The Bring Your Child to Work Day thing isn't working out as well at the originators thought. In these days of The Flying AIDS, everyone's working from home anyway. So every day is Bring Your Child to Work Day. First, you cannot social distance from a cocker spaniel, nor can you put a mask on her (someone is going to get rich selling a pet mask).  My lap is a favorite place. If she can't get there, she likes to block the doorway. Some mornings I wake up to find emails have been sent to Purina, Pupperoni, and doggie escort services. I hope this is not Mrs lefty (again). The barking on conference calls is out of hand: as soon as one dog barks, all the other dogs on the call start barking. This is not necessarily a bad thing - sometimes they come up with better ideas than their humans. You also have to watch out for your snacks and, most importantly, your coffee. Over time, our 4 cocker spaniels have loved coffee. The rule is if you put it closer to the floor than your seat, it's theirs.

The Minnesota police apologized for the Floyd killing. They said there was an error in their police manual that caused a misunderstanding. The police  manual said "Handcuff the perpetrator, have him medically checked, put him in a car or van, and get him to the station." They thought it said "put your boot on his neck until he's dead." It was a simple mistake anybody could make, and they are very sorry.

One of the downsides to having absolutely no filters is that you occasionally stick your foot in it. I was practicing with my band and afterwards we saw a legal commercial for mesothelioma. Never having heard the word, I turned around to the band and said "Mesothelima? I had that for dessert last night." The bass player turned green. He whispered "Shhh.... my dad has it." For some reason, I do this a lot.

It's so good to be home after the Great Storm of 2020. I can now trip over my own stuff. The dog can bark at anything that walks by the house, and Mrs lefty can continue her intimate relationship with Quality Shopping Network at Home. When they don't hear from her for a few days, they call to see if she's ok.

Captivity - Day 3

Covid-19: the biology of an effective therapy.
A vaccine may not arrive for at least a year, so what to do?
Tell your SO that sex has been shown to help prevent it, but only in sufficient quantity. What is sufficient quantity? Whatever you say it is.

The day started out like any other, except for the major virus and working from home. I have to admit my coffee is light years better than in the office. We have a Keurig machine at work, but it's a fact that the closer to Philly water you are, the worse the water tastes. By the time it hits our house, it has had a chance to mellow, by eating the pipes on its way.

Working at home is pretty cool - I don't know why I didn't start earlier.
Oh yeah - my boss told me no.
I told him we all needed to be using linux.
He was amused.
Now it's ok to use linux to work from home.
HA!
Vindicated, once again.
Let's face it - when Windows machines connect to the network, they're likely to be full of viruses anyway (97%, according to an article last week).

The dog is over the moon because I'm home.
Mrs lefty, not so much.
She's one of those Loud Talkers on the phone, so she's banished to the back yard every time the phone rings.
This has the effect of rolling downhill: whenever Wife goes out back, Dog comes into the office and stares pitifully at me. I have been reduced to a doggie door opener.

Idiot Governor Wolf considering shelter-in-place order.
Idiot Governor Wolf considering opening alcohol stores (it's state run in PA).
Idiot Governor Wolf wants all non-essential businesses closed at 8am this morning.
Idiot Governor Wolf's subjects ask where to send their bills if forced to close.
Idiot Governor Wolf calling on state police to enforce business closures.
Idiot Governor Wolf needs to find out the meaning of trebuchet.
Idiot Mayor Kenney has declared no non-essential people work in Philadephia. I'll bet he's forcing the $250/night hotels to house his illegal aliens.

A Portland strip club was forced to close, so the employees started delivering food. Perfect example of adjusting to the times. It still doesn't explain why burgers are $50....

There is some sad news for guitar players: Seymour Duncan has to stop work on their famous pickups for the time being, but they are available to answer questions.

We used to call it WFH: Working From Home.
Let's be safe out there... let me provide a few tips, which the very intelligent people who read ThermionicEmissions don't need...

  1. Update your operating system
  2. Virus scan your operating system
  3. Back up your important files, just in case
  4. For the maximum protection, plug right into your router - no wireless
  5. If you are using wireless, make sure your wireless system is set to use WPA2 - anything else is NO GOOD. You're flying a red flag that says "HACK ME!" Turn off the feature that auto-joins pc's to your router (WPS?).
  6. If possible, use one computer only for work. Keep it clean, although you should keep all computers clean.
  7. It's a royal PITA, but use a computer's firewall. Windows has one, as does linux.
  8. See #1 and #2
  9. Once a week or so, clean the PC. Bleach Bit is a great program, but pay attention to the settings or your computer will 'forget' things.
  10. Mac and linux have LittleSnitch, which is sort of a firewall. Use it.
  11. Remember to take care of yourself too.
  12. Nobody pays attention to this, but you're at your computer desk for 8 house a day. Go ergonomic: set your chair so your elbows are at a 90 degree angle. Do not bend your wrists up to get to the keyboard: this will result in pain and possibly repetitive stress injury. Check out an ergonomic keyboard - I love them. Get a comfortable mouse - some are wireless. Take frequent breaks (you can set a timer to schedule them).
  13. Remember: if you have sex with your SO, it counts as having sex at work
  14. if you have any questions, please ask. I've been doing this for a while.
  15. Don't open email. Any email. Especially if it's corona-themed. If it's from a friend, ask them if they sent it before opening it. The subhumans are taking advantage of the virus to spread malware.
  16. You'll be much safer with Mac or linux (had to)

These tips are good in general. Don't wait for a human or computer virus to pop up before observing good computer hygiene.

The House of Waffles

Stop laughing.

We found ourselves at one of the above-mentioned restaurants, having breakfast at 8pm (because breakfast tastes better after dinner). The first thing we noticed was that the place was empty. Very empty.. like the Food Police just left.

In spite of this, we got seated quickly.

The next thing we noticed was the large volume of cold air hitting us, as if someone figured out how to make an eight foot solid window open. The waitress asked if we wanted to move to a different spot which wasn't as cold. Nice lady.  I went from shivering with my coat on to not shivering with my coat on.  It turns out the air conditioning was on and the controls locked. This is Great Business Practice. Mid-February, near the mountains; crank up the a/c.

Oddly enough, I don't complain much in restaurants. You really have to go out of your way to make my food miserable, or make me wait an hour for it, before I'll say anything. But here's a restaurant (stay with me and stop laughing) where people are sitting there, eating with heavy coats on. And no one can turn off the a/c. Perhaps the owner is menopausal.

The food arrived. When I say the food arrived, I mean everything but mine.
She eventually brought mine over and asked if it was too dark. Ummmm... I have to admit I've never heard that question before. Well, chocolate tends to be dark, so no problem.

Problem.

There's no chocolate.
I ordered a chocolate chip waffle. This being Waffle House, I didn't expect an issue. You know... ordering a waffle at Waffle House. The overcooked waffle, missing its chocolate chips. If I think about this any further, my head will hurt even more than it does (and the voices will get louder and angrier).

While we're on the topic, there's no coffee either. I've never been in food service, but I've ordered an awful lot of it. The coffee comes first. Honestly.   As it turned out, the extreme lack of coffee was actually a gift, which we figured out when it arrived. It would be rude to compare the taste to an ashtray, so I'll just say it tasted a lot less like a caramel-colored ashtray when two or six creamers were installed. Unfortunately this pushed the level of the coffee way up, causing a small physics issue, wherein the coffee sought a new place for itself and found it,  on the table, my plate, and the greater part of my pants. So technically, I wet my pants.

The waffle was, as you'd imagine, dark and a bit more stiff than I like. Unfortunately, so were the hash browns. They had the effect of being one solid, crunchy piece of potato. I am obviously not a purist, but I have never had bad Waffle House food or service.  Just so no one complains that I never say anything positive, the orange juice was exactly as described and in no way messed up, served at the proper temperature, and nicely aerated.  I am not complaining about the waitress.

Hours later, our stomachs and intestines remain unpunctured. We will give the place another chance, although I worry that if we go in the summer, the heat will be locked on.

No, You're Fat

There's a lot of Weird Shit happening in the world today, especially of the Weird Social Variety<tm>. For lack of better definition, let's call it Fat Pride.

When you see a 'woman of size', wearing clothes made for a woman of size, they say they're comfortable in their skin. Mrs leftystrat, a former woman of size, used to say to me that it was nice that these women were comfortable with their size - you go, girl. It only took one catalog of swimwear for women of size for both of us to agree this was Not Right. After the lingerie catalog for women of size, we were both shocked and put off by the pictures. Don't get me wrong: there should be lingerie in any size that people will buy; but I'd rather not see it in ads. If you haven't seen it, seek it out. It simply doesn't look right. There's a reason the Victorias models are slim.

I don't usually have much to say on the social aspects of this, but being comfortable with or proud of your (large) skin can normalize fat. How comfortable are they going to be with their first heart attack? Will this send the message to large people that it's ok to be large? It's very clearly unhealthy, as established by Medical Science, since way back when Medical Science was young (and thin). Fat hits arteries and restricts blood flow to organs, most notably the brain.

I'm big on the freedom of speech thing and this is ok with me from a speech perspective... whatever the market will bear. I would just prefer, personally, that people don't think this is ok - for their own health. If you want to weigh north of 300lbs (453 liters Canadian), go for it. Just don't explode in public: that stuff's damn near impossible to clean.

Having said that, I am not a Person of Size, but portions of me are growing. Unstopped, who knows how large they will grow. I'd prefer not to complete the Science on that and have taken steps to stop the growth. When I stay steps, I am not speaking physically. What Science hasn't discovered yet is that exercise causes cancer. I do not wish to be on the leading edge of that discovery, so I strenuously avoid it.

What I have done to arrest the growth is to replace one soda per day with a large glass of water. Well, I tried. Have you experienced water when it's not 90 degrees or you haven't completed a marathon jog up the steps? It tastes like... water. Throwing a lemon wedge into it makes all the difference in the world. Throwing some Arnold Palmer iced tea/lemonade into it would make an ever bigger difference, but something tells me this isn't a good idea. This is a huge step for me and I do not take it lightly. Thus far I've replaced a soda with water damn near every day of the week  (*except weekends and a few days during the week). We traditionally eat well, avoiding fast and boxed foods, preparing most meals ourselves  (*except malts, Marshall's favorite). Logically, all things remaining the same, the weight gain would point to exercise, but as I said, cancer won't be the thing to take me out. Or a heart attack.

Next week, ThermionicEmissions reviews "50 Shades of Gay".

She Woman Man Haters Club
Uh-oh.... the American Psychological Association has discovered that women outnumber men by more than two to one in the psych field. For the 35 and unders, the ratio jumps to nine to one. Do you suppose there will be urgent efforts to bring the men to parity? A great wail on social media about needing more men? High school programs to direct men into the mental health field?

Along those lines, seen on an announcement for Women Fest:
All women are welcome at the festival, including transgender women and pre-operative individuals. We're also happy to have non-binary people, provided they have a vagina; but not non-binary people with a penis because we have to draw the line somewhere.

Watch your mailboxes. There seems to be a small flood of junk AOL emails. Most of us would comment that any email from AOL is junk, but apparently it is still used (by the clueless). They might not have subject lines but they contain a small amount of text and a link. Also getting deluged with phishing emails from banks and the requisite people depositing a few million into my account, wanting my information.

Your bank isn't going to email you on sensitive matters, especially on your email you give out for nonsense purposes. Call the bank and check if you think the email is real. Don't do this frequently unless you want the person who picks up the phone to snicker when you say your name.

Nigerian princes, kings, ex-officials, and dog catchers aren't going to give you millions of dollars, or even one bottle of chilled YooHoo.

What do I do?
Don't. Remember lefty's law: just say no. Don't read it, don't open it, don't click on the link and don't leave it in your inbox - mark it spam and delete it. When you see a link, hover your mouse over it: this will show you where the link really goes. Odds are it will be different than the link you're clicking on. If it seems too good to be true, it is.

Similarly, watch what you're installing on your phone. This is primarily an android issue, as Apple vets the authors and apps. If it looks too good to be true, it is. If it has a lot of foreign text in it, avoid. If the reviews look odd, avoid. If there are grammar errors that tell you the author's first language isn't English, avoid. Look the app up elsewhere for any info. Trust your instincts: if the app causes you to pause, don't. You're choosing between possibly destroying your phone's software or being without Fantastic Game of the year. You decide which is more important. Note when the app first hit the market and the download count. Note quantity of reviews and stars.

  • About that shiny new browser you just installed on your phone, or, heaven forbid, your computer (remember those things?).... Don't go anywhere on it until you check the settings... they're typically pretty dangerous. The last one I saw had save passwords on, automatically fill out forms on, and accept all cookies, including third party on. This is stuff you want to turn OFF. Save your passwords in a password manager, not your browser. Automatically fill out forms means the browser keeps your data, which isn't safe. Don't accept third party cookies unless you really need them to make the (well known, safe) site function.
  • Don't install just any browser until you see what it's built on. I don't use Chrome because it's Google and it phones home. However, there are android browsers built on Chrome. Ever vigilant.

One of the top web vulnerabilities is cross-site scripting.
So don't cross-site script, ok?

Oopsie - Faceyspaces admitted sharing users' data with 61 tech companies. This was revealed in a 747 page PDF delivered to Congress. The recommend step to fix this is to delete your account.

I've been going back and forth about my new job. I didn't want to tell anyone what I'm doing for privacy, jealousy, and hatred reasons. Since I share everything and try to be honest with my readers, I'm going to come out of the closet, so to speak, and let you know about my new gig: President Trump's Space Force. At work, I'm Captain leftystrat. You guys can continue to call me lefty, shithead, or whatever you call me when I'm out of earshot.

I was doing some contracting for the subcontractor of a subcontractor, when I was selected for the program. I'm told the president himself picked me, due to my great love of expanding government and outrageous expenditures funded by taxpayer money. In his wisdom, the President felt that someone endowed with my superior sense of sarcasm and love of government would be a good person to observe the program. As a patriotic American, I was proud to accept and will rise to the occasion, occasionally standing. Don (he tells us to call him Don) is a decent guy, with a great love of pussy jokes.

As a formality, I had to go through an intensive background check. They made sure my listed address was where the checks went. They also talked to my neighbors, who are either completely terrified of me or have no idea who I am. The 6'5" humongous black man who lives down the block works for the mafia and the NFL, which sometimes get confused. He's completely terrified of me. I let him borrow my weed wacker and he was hesitant to take it from my hands. Other neighbors know me only as Marshall's dad. Marshall's mom is incredibly popular with the hood, but parents pull their children into the house when I walk by. I don't know where the reputation came from but I enjoy the hell out of it: the social interaction is absolutely zero.

I got a really spiffy uniform with an actual patch. The Space Force logo is an eagle holding billions of dollars in its talons. At the front of the control center, the logo is a gray alien, with the words "Swamp Gas" at the bottom. The program labored to figure out an appropriate weapon for us to carry, so now we're equipped with super soakers, with Ray Gun written in magic marker on the barrel. More than one of us walking down a hall look most formidable, like Ghostbusters without the sense of humor or decent hair.

To be continued.....

  • Bill Gates says the world is a far better place today than ever in history.
  • Yes it is, especially if you have more money than God and Zuckerberg. (those two get mixed up sometimes).

A new Swedish law recognizes sex without 'explicit consent' as rape.
Nobody, including the person who drafted the law, knows what this means, other than a judge will have to decide whether there was explicit consent.
Sex in Sweden is about to get weird. And not in a good way. Read this in the voice of the Muppets' Swedish Chef:

HIM: Hello. Do you accept my hello?
HER: Hello, I do. Do you accept my hello?
HIM: I do. Wanna come back to my house for drinks and the possibility of some sex?
HER: I agree to go to your house for drinks but do not consent to sex at this moment.
HIM: I understand. Let's go.
HER: Let's go.

At his house...

HIM: I find there's nothing like chocolate whipped cream vodka to start the night off. Do you concur?
HER: I do not agree that chocolate cream is the best way to start the night, but agree to consume the beverage.
HIM: You are aware that this drink contains alcohol, which can impair your decision-making ability.
HER: I am aware that alcohol has those properties and also tends to make my panties disappear. That notwithstanding, I agree to drink it.
HIM: Excellent. Let the party begin!
HER: I agree. Let the party begin.

HIM: Would you like a third glass of vodka? We can switch to Swedish Fish vodka if you like.... our national beverage.
HER: Swe.. hic.. Shwede ka asheptbl.

HER: Where my und.. unddwr.. pantiesh go? Alwaysh do thish.
HIM: I would like to kiss you.
HER: Ag... aggg... concur.

HER: Now kish me downnnn air.
HIM: To be clear, are you asking me to perform oral sex upon you?
HER: Yesh.. lick mmm mah mmmmm pushy.

HIM: I would like oral sex from you. Is that agreeable?
HER: Ye yah ye no yes yesh, thatsh grand hic... no talkies wif mouf fullnphggggh
HIM: That kinda hurts. Can we have intercourse instead?
HER: yeahyeahyeahyeah putitinmenow hopontoppop
HIM: I just need you to fill out this form in triplicate, agreeing to intercourse, signing at the bottom and initialing at these seven spots.  If you think you'd like anal, initial here. If you'd rather wait and see, don't initial here but initial here.
HER: Yeah, whatevs.. are we gonnadoit now?
HIM: Almost there. What are we doing about contraception?
HER: No probs.. I'm on bill...
HIM: You're on the pill?
HER: No, I was on Bill earlier. And I gots wunna those fishing lures all the way up there, so we're good. Now plows me like middle eashters turned desert into an oasish.
HIM: Where do you want me to finish?
HER: left ear.. right ear.. someone's ear, yeah.
HIM: If we need a vibrator, lube, or barnyard animals, initial here.

One night of hellacious sex and one subpoena later....

JUDGE: Martin Smegma?
HIM: Yes, Your Honor.
JUDGE: you are accused of raping Miss Edith Hoe. How do you plead.
HIM: Not guilty.
JUDGE: Miss Hoe, what happened?
HER: I don't know - what happened? I can't remember anything but a really nasty headache.. oh.. that.... we went to his house, plied each other with liquor and he raped me.
HIM: Your Honor, I have sworn affidavits, showing a positive affirmation to each step of the process of consensual sex. The plaintiff has signed and initialed each form. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find an all night notary?
JUDGE: Mr. Smegma, I pronounce you guilty.
HIM: Your Honor? I have explicit consent. That's the requirement of the law.
JUDGE: Yes, but she got drunk and couldn't consent. Fifteen years in prison.
HIM: You're a prick.
JUDGE: Excuse me?
HIM: I said I think I'm going to be sick.

  • What do you do with an invasive species of iguana? If you're Florida (uh-oh), you eat them. The McGuana, flame broiled Iguaper, and the deep fried iguana bits have become favorites at most restaurants (when dinner starts, about 4pm).
  • They put Florida at one end and California at the other. This is either for amusement's sake or a cruel joke. Or both.

Some dude who read the bible and just happens to be a marijuana scholar (a marijuana scholar?) said Jesus used cannibis oil to heal and it might explain some of his miracles.

Asked to point out where in the bible it says Jesus used it, he could not entirely pull out the word 'cannibis', but pointed out that Peter and Paul (before Mary) were sitting around, saying, "Oh man... this shit is great... did you say Jesus gave it to you? Does he have any more?"

And lo, Jesus turned to Peter and Paul and said, in his mercy, "Dave's not here, man."

I tested my new scanner when the printer came out of the box. It scanned and printed, which was really all I wanted. I am not that complex a person.
Unfortunately the forms I scanned in showed up rotated a few degrees to one side. This meant every line on the forms headed uphill. No one has ever seen documents like this, so it needed to be fixed. I re-set the form, made sure it lined up perfectly against the edges, and it came out heading uphill at a steeper angle.

The reason no one has ever seen documents like this is that any normal to complete idiot of a person places a document face down and it gets scanned perfectly. Unless you're this particular idiot. I manually rotated the paper ever so slightly then scanned again. Less uphill but still uphill. After a difficult long day, I had no patience left for lines going uphill. I became very upset. I said things to the scanner... things that, had I said them to the wife, would cause a divorce. Finally I got the document almost straight. Unfortunately there was a page two.. same process, but it was worse. More screaming at an inanimate object. Both of my deaf neighbors heard me. They were napping, hearing aids out, in rooms with windows shut, air conditioners on, and blankets covering their heads. They heard every word. I'm surprised the Word Police didn't stop by for another visit. Even threatening to grind the scanner into a fine powder did not intimidate it. Page two finally emerged, only slightly uphill.

I'm just going to spend the rest of the evening picking bits of printer/scanner out of the neighbors' houses. If I don't make any noise, they'll never know.

Will the Last Person Please Turn Out The Lights

I've bemoaned the terrestrial radio situation before, but today it got worse.
We have one rock station, and one classic rock station, which plays the same songs by the same artists, over and over and over and over.... Then there's NPR, but I don't need to hear why Trump is wrong about everything or four hours on plants, until most of the listeners commit suicide.

So we're in the car, which is the only time we listen to the radio, as the cd player broke. We put on the rock station and hear..... hockey.

There used to be another rock station that was a hair more listenable. Naturally that couldn't be left alone, so one day they went sports talk. A talk station on FM. Why? Do we need color commentary to come to us with full fidelity? Can't we just listen to our teams lose on AM?

After much searching, I managed to locate the email address of the rock station's program director and sent him an email to share my feelings. Because the world seems to operate on feelings these days. Before you shudder at my feelings, sharing them, or what else I might say to the person, I want you to know I kept it very level. At no point did I threaten his family's well-being or even his genitalia. I made no comments about his predilection for crossdressing or cruising certain neighborhoods after dark. I didn't even complain that the morning team seems to be more of a Morning Mob, with much input from people who sound like they were picked up off the streets in South Philadelphia and told to put in their two cents whenever they felt like it. I simply stated that we have many choices for sports, but they're the only rock station, and how about playing some rock?  Not unreasonable.

I feel much better having done that. Maybe tomorrow I'll send an email to the classic rock station, suggesting they play something different from the 12 artists they play. I know it's what I'd like to hear.

I have got to invest in a new car radio. With AUX IN. It doesn't even have to have AM or FM. Just Bluetooth or a USB stick with music.

Will the last person listening to terrestrial radio please turn out the lights when you're done?

P.S. I received a response from the program director, explaining that they were contractually bound to carry the hockey game, due to some other station carrying football. Or basketball. Or water polo... probably water polo.

Guitar-Related: read at your own peril

Because I like to be told "no", it was time for another trip to Guitar Center. I like to go every now and then to see what's new and if there's anything I desperately need at that moment. They used to have new stuff. Now they have... blah. In large quantities. The place has shrunken down, both in space and inventory. In terms of lefties, it was a good trip: one used Strat, one cheap Strat, and one midline Tele. It used to be better, but stopped. The chain in is financial trouble, much like Gibson guitars. They were bought by Bain Capital, Mitt "Sue" Romney's firm, which squeezes out all profits, then discards.

The new Fenders, as widely publicized after the music show in January (NAMM) were nowhere to be found. Funny, they appear for sale all over the internet. So I asked, only to be told that NAMM is a giant tease, and no one will see the actual guitars til May. This bears checking out.

There was one guitar that caught my eye. It was backwards, but still.. I could probably order it. In fact, it caught everyone's eye because they could not help but see it. Then it burned out their retinas. It was rather unbelievably yellow, in a way that could provide light for a hemisphere of the planet at very least. It might've had a tinge of green, just to make it more.... violently ugly. It was a Charvel and they introduced some wild, LOUD colors recently. Unfortunately Charvel is a metal guitar, therefore I wouldn't like it if it were lefty. Bloody necks that are wide and flat. But it was so wonderfully blinding that I could almost see myself playing it, next to my other incredibly ugly Strat. You know - if I ever played out anywhere.

There were two employees visible, both of whom were very nice and customer-service oriented. The store was dead, but I guess Easter Sunday/April Fools Day is not known as the best time to shop for guitars. I kinda liked it. I went in with money, ready to spend, and failed. I do this a lot, which says something about me.

Will the last person shopping at Guitar Center please turn out the lights?

Makeup

We took a trip to the makeup store too. My wife does not get off on being told no, and it works out spectacularly for her. Or, as we say around Christmas, What do you get the girl who wants everything?

I'm a relatively decent husband, in that I take an interest in things she likes. I don't mind shoe shopping or makeup shopping. Except today. When guys go shopping, they stroll in purposefully, eventually get the thing they want, even if it means looking at a list with one thing on it, and get their ass out of the store. Women are different (no, really?). Every aisle. Everything on every shelf required either a comment (got that, got that, don't have that, got that, don't want that) or physically handling the item. Sometimes this came with an explanation. Normally I can do this with no difficulty. Today was different. I was sweating. My good humor and geniality started to fade quickly (yeah, geniality.... very funny).

These stores are incredible. It's a license to print money. Guys, if you've never followed your lady into a makeup store, you owe yourself a look. Take one of those muscle relaxers first, or a stiff drink (or both) and follow her in. There are all sorts of things in this store, each costing a lot of money. And women and girls flock to these places to be beautiful.

There is makeup in all colors. Want blue sparkly lips? Gotcha covered. Purple eyes? Check. Foundation? Name the shade. Concealer? It will make you invisible. Spackle and trowels? Aisle 3. Want to know why she is short on cash?  Because her lipstick is $19.99, and most everything else starts at $8 and rockets upwards. I was going to surprise her with some perfume, which was only $70, but a better bargain at $99 for a slightly larger size. I buy guitar stuff that doesn't cost me this much.

The focus at this point seems to be eyebrows. Don't ask me, I have no idea and no way to comprehend any of it. Maybe if we find a woman, we can ask. I've been noticing eyebrows lately, because you can't possibly miss them on social media, with the interminable selfies. Just as I was thankful that they stopped doing stupid things with their lips and stopped looking like they slipped across their eyelids and onto the side of their face with mascara, we are now faced with eyebrows. My limited understanding is that ladies used to pluck their eyebrows. Now they can be permanently installed, done professionally, tweezed, hot waxed, drawn under, drawn instead of, and threaded. I understand this process uses thread but have no desire to watch or even have it explained to me.

My eyebrows are strategically located in the traditional spot (right above my left buttock). They largely sit there, occasionally falling out or growing. That's pretty much it. They require no real maintenance, color, marker, or threading (I don't think). No matter.. consult a woman and she'll tell you that you probably could use some cosmetic sharpening of the old above-eye growth. Thanks but no thanks - I've got to wash my hair that night.

Why do women do this?
To make themselves beautiful. After all, if you buy this lipstick, it will give you larger breasts. And if you use that blush, you'll look just like that adorable model on the cover. That eye shadow will make you look like Cindy Crawford, while that perfume will turn you into Julia Roberts, complete with that smile and her perfect-size bum.

How do they know this?
How should I know. It's probably genetic. They walk into a makeup store, find just the right concealer, foundation, and bath salts (not the ones that make you eat the face off people) and go home, safe in the knowledge that they can operate the makeup like they were born with it. If you put the purple stuff on your face, it makes the craters less visible. The green stuff hides pimples and redness. The pink stuff is good for bruises, after you 'fell down the steps' again. The brown stuff... well.... it makes your skin browner. We even saw something that, according to the model, gives you a gap between your front teeth. Some of that stuff gives you big blonde hair! My wife is hip to this scam. She learned a long time ago that you will not look like the model, nor will the stuff work anywhere near as advertised. Smart woman. Only took 13 years to figure this out. You laugh - many women still haven't figured it out.

I spied another poor guy, across the aisle, pretending to be interested in what his lady was showing him. Smart fella. It got me to wonderin'... with all this space, maybe they should either put in a men's section with products, or put in some benches and a tv. Internet access. Cinnabons, my god. Expensive coffee drinks! This is another money-making opportunity for these folks, even if the markup is better on makeup than $7.50 coffee with whipped cream, a few squirts of this and that, a half pump of watermelon, and some soy whipped cream because Muffy is lactose intolerant and we don't want to be following her down the aisles, if you know what I mean.... I need to suggest this to the chain, because I'm incapable of keeping my bright(?) ideas to myself.

The owners of this place have to be wiping their bottoms with hundred dollar bills. With the exception of the Metro group, guys don't do this stuff. But women flock to these places, handing over lots of their hard-earned cash for essence of this and foundation of that.

At the cashier, we stood in line because there was only a cashier. There were others, but they were doing homework for their Looking Busy class. Good job, I tell you. Cashier, a customer too, asked if we found everything ok. STOP. Hold the really bad overhead music. Keep the commentary down. What does that MEAN? We definitely found the things we brought to the counter ok. After having combed the entire store, aisle by aisle, there is very little we didn't find. Did she mean finding the experience ok? No, it was too hot and nary a product for a straight male, except maybe some $29 shampoo.

Better yet, just experience it vicariously through me. I'm here for you.

But That's Not All...

No sir. There's another place one must see a few times in one's lifetime. I won't mention the name, but it rhymes with Head, Laugh, and Be Gone.  I'm not sure our parents imagined a world that included a store carrying beds, coffee, coffee machines, coffee containers, coffee grinders, linens that resist coffee, pillows, towels, kitchen gadgets and makeup. Yes, more makeup.

I don't think it was unreasonable of me, upon her insistence at looking at even more makeup, that I politely told her I forgot something in the car, perhaps a life, and I'd be waiting for her there.

But seriously, folks... all of their stores take up mega-space. They all have room for that weird size brush with the curved handle that allows you to clean the bottom of those 18" tall spaghetti containers. Not the lasagna containers- that's a different tool entirely. And they have this tool in a few colors, plus left-handed for me. If you can afford the retail space for these items, you're doing well.

I have never seen so much coffee in my life, in the form of Keurig pods. They're everywhere, including the bedsheet section.  Let me give you a hint, if you're serious about your coffee: don't buy this crap. Stick with what you know. Especially the stuff with the big V on it. We wasted money on a large box of french roast V coffee and had to throw it out. I like strong, manly coffee, with seven tablespoons of sugar and a half pint of fancy creamer, in a girly way. None of this stuff measures up to Peet's. If you don't mind nicely flavored hot water type beverage, by all means, pick up some pods. There's an infinite variety. Donut Shop (actually reminds you of Dunkin, watered down), Cinnabon (absolutely not - real thing only), Italian roast (tries to sleep with your wife), and Green Mountain. Even people who drink from the toilet should avoid Green Mountain. They're owned by Keurig or vice-versa, and produce coffee-colored, mildly flavored water.

One of my most amusing finds was a creme brulee(?) set, with some bowls and what looked like a mini flamethrower. The first thing I thought, after realizing that I needed a mini flamethrower to go with the large one, is that they couldn't sell this in England. You're not allowed to carry a knife over 3" or generic cutting tools or a hammer, because they're used for breaking in. One guy was barely allowed to keep his carpet knife, because he used it at work to cut carpet. Can you imagine the look on the face of the cop who sees the mini flamethrower? They might have to ring the fire brigade, bomb squad, armed response unit, and an ambulance for the first cop, who had an aneurysm after he saw it.

The store must have a generous Screwing Off policy, as we watched one employee, clearly not on her break, sit on a stool and check her cell phone. Probably forgot to post an important selfie.

The As Seen on TV crowd will have an orgasm over this stock. Pillows, flat hoses, hose extenders, vibrating things, and some sort of flower sponge that sings. I walked away quickly.

I'm secure enough in my manhood to hold my wife's pocketbook, but frequently don't have the shoulder strength. The only thing worse is being stranded by the entrance while she goes to the ladies'. A caring employee finally came up and asked if she could help me find anything. I teared up and told her my wife walked away and I couldn't find her, so this is where we agreed to meet if one of us got lost. There's a reason I don't go out much.

I found a saying recently.... "Every time I go out, I remember why I don't like to go out."

  • Students at the University of Colorado earn up to 3 points for attending the annual White Privilege Conference.
  • Where do I get me some of this white privilege?
  • How many points do I receive for attending the Jewish and Black Privilege Conferences? Will they be combined again this year? What do you get when you combine.... sorry... I said I wouldn't do that again.

Hey, if you're ever in Ukraine (economic problems forced them to change from The Ukraine), I've got the accommodations for you! It's a brand new S&M hotel.  You can get the Dungeon Room, complete with dominatrix (150 pounds/hour). You can even rent by the hour (3 hrs min). There's only one hotel rule: don't appear drunk. You can get out the belt and beat your partner til they're bleeding. Strangle them for pleasure during sex.  Spank them til they can't sit down for the second quarter of 2018. Make them wear WWI gas masks. Just don't appear drunk.

  • Back in 2011, a photographer got a picture of Mark Zuckerberg picking up dog poop. Security 'escorted' him to Faceyspaces HQ.
  • I think it's great that he cleans up after his dog.
  • However, he's a slimy hypocrite who believes it's ok to mine everyone else's data but not his.
  • Sorry, bud... if you're on the sidewalk, it's no longer private property.
  • There's something wrong when you have your own security force that's not beholden to local laws.

For all of you End of Days folks, a rabbi said he sees Trump rebuilding the temple. I know that has some sort of significance - maybe the messiah? Or something from Life of Brian. He's not the messiah: he's a very naughty boy.

  • Comment while watching British tv: hey, she's not ugly!
  • Line from British tv show: She's not a foreigner, she's Welsh.

Due to the brewing trade war with China, they said America would learn a "painful lesson" by tangling with them. They have threatened to close all of their restaurants.

  • London's death toll has bested New York. That is an accomplishment. The deaths are attributed to knife violence. The first hullabaloo was a demand for the mayor to speak. When he did eventually speak, he said, "Let me clear - there is no reason to carry a knife ... they will be caught and will feel the full force of the law.  Apparently not, Mr. Mayor.
  • I think you guys need to sit down and have a common sense talk about knife control. This is when parody writes itself.

A couple of weeks ago, a Tesla driver crashed and died in California. Another one almost met the same fate while on autopilot, at the same location. The theory is that the line paint had faded and the camera could not make it out. However, there were no warnings about crashing into the divider.  Tesla advises its customers to keep their hands on the wheels, and to pay attention. This seems to negate the point of autopilot.

Regardless, this highlights my apprehension over self-driving vehicles. I don't like the way they seemed to appear so quickly. I'm not against them, but I don't think they're ready for prime time. I take a lot of heat for this.

Backwards World

There are over 1,500 people headed through Mexico to the US, aided by Mexico. They have released DEMANDS of President Trump.

“We demand of the Mexico and the United States: that they respect our rights as refugees and our right to dignified work to be able to support our families,” the statements reads.
The second demand is “that they open the borders to us because we are as much citizens as the people of the countries where we are and/or travel.”

They're not even in America and they're already more entitled than college students.

Speaking of college students, George Washington University is holding a diversity workshop that teaches that Christians, especially white ones, "receive unmerited perks from institutions and systems all across our country."

Christian Privilege. Betcha didn't see that coming.

In case you fear where this is going, I'll add more workshops offered: “heteroesexual privilege,” “cisgender privilege,” “abled-bodied privilege,” “socio-economic privilege,” “unconscious bias,” and more. Don't forget right-handed privilege. white privilege, and male privilege.

Homework: count the number of your privileges.

The Derbyshire Constabulary mens choir is rather upset (British understatement) because they were told they have to admit women. Or at least anyone identifying as a woman.

More than one million illegal aliens have received driver's licenses in California, according to their Department of Motor Vehicles.  Send them to Syria and have them demand licenses.

Parents Being Parents

  • Gimme that old time religion: An Arizona mother got her child up for church on Easter Sunday by tazing him. She was promptly arrested for some reason. I think she should be commended for parenting skills.
  • Her two children are on probation and the sixteen year old tazee has an ankle bracelet. All she was doing was enforcing discipline. Let's face it - they'll never do that again. Nor will she.

  • An Ingram, PA, couple ran a brothel out of their house, where three young children were living. Child endangerment charges have been filed.
  • Another responsible parent, teaching her children the value of a second career option. Survival. Business skills.
  • The 18 month old might be a little young, but is it ever really too early to start?

Remember the Defense Department giving out armed forces equipment and vehicles to police departments? Some Wisconsin police are returning mine-resistant vehicles and replacing them with smaller, armored emergency vehicles, due to citizen complaints. Having no bearing on the decision is the fact that they're large, heavy, and difficult to maintain.

What's wrong with mine-resistant vehicles for combat against your own people? How much will the new vehicles cost and who's paying for them?
You know that the rest of the cities and states will follow suit.  Just kidding.

Florida, We Missed You

  • It's been a day or two since we heard from Florida, but they've taken a chunk out of the news cycle: a Volusia teen has been accused of biting the head off a live chicken. It's going to be about five minutes until someone's lawyer blames Ozzy Osbourne. Aren't you supposed to wait til they're cooked first?

  • So it's Easter, and in Altamonte Springs, some folks are having a nice Easter dinner. Shivon Perez asked a guest, her ex-boyfriend, to fix a pipe. While he was fixing said pipe, she sprayed him with gasoline and set him on fire.
  • If he doesn't do the dishes, your next step should probably not be setting him alight. Hit him with a pan, maybe.

Marshall

How is Marshall coming along?
He had his first doggie acupuncture appointment the other day.
Yes, there is a doggie acupuncturist. Or at least that's what she said she was.
She had a degree on the wall from School of Modern Doggie Acupuncture and a white coat with her name on it, so we felt it was safe to go ahead.

The staff fawned over him for a while. We initially put this down to the amount they were charging us wherever we went. It seems to be pretty genuine, and he seems to lap it right up. He's not tremendously social, like his parents, but he does well. He sat there for his treatment, not moving around and not anxious (dogs pant and move their tongues in and out when anxious). The doc was most impressed with his appearance and health for his age and his condition.

These folks are using Eastern medicine. Know what that is? It's what people used before Big Pharma. Natural remedies. Stuff we should all be using. We were advised to modify his diet. I didn't get all the details but one phrase stuck in my mind: "there's a big difference between farm raised and fresh caught salmon." And give him some mushrooms (I thought they were almost inert fungus). So the dog will eat much better than we will, even when we buy expensive food. They said they'll stop the cancer at very least, and they've had success at driving it back some. I believe them. People have had all sorts of ailments cured via acupuncture. So why not my little monster?

Just Return the Crap and Be Done with it

Wee Wee Water
At the risk of sounding like a very popular neurotic Jewish comic, what's this nonsense about running water and peeing?  I vaguely remember hearing that if a woman wanted to pee in the bathroom or for a medical test, she should run some water. Then I remember hearing about old men having to run water to pee in general.

After I hit a certain age, I noticed this effect in reverse, sorta. I'd do my Manly Duty, washing dishes, and a short way into it, I had to pee. It sometimes takes me a while to catch on (to most things) and in a while, I noticed it.  It was a sad day for me, like maybe I should celebrate by signing up for AARP or Medicare.  Whenever I washed dishes. Whenever I got water from a faucet. And yesterday, was the final insult (I hope): while pouring Marshall's personally refrigerated Special Spaniel Water into his dish, the Pee Alarm went off again. What's happening to me?

BUT WAIT!!! If you keep reading, we'll spell out an even more absurd point, and we'll send it to you for nothing! Not even an additional handling or reading charge!  One day when filling up Marshall's water container for his refrigerated Special Spaniel Water, I felt the Urge. I thought I had outsmarted my body by going to the bathroom before I filled the container. But POOF - there it was. Only I didn't really have anything to give... yes, it was Phantom Pee Urge. This brand new diagnosis will be rushed through committee and will appear in an interim diagnosis supplement for all physicians.

  • After weeks of sex with a transexual, a man kills her for "that sick thing between her legs." I'm thinking the guy must have had a small vision issue. Did he possibly miss the superfluous genitalia? For a few weeks? Is it THAT dark where he does it?

I hope your holidays were nice.
I got a rock.

Speaking of the holidays, I thought it might be a good time to stand around the menorah, light some candles, and sing Jewish folk songs. Then I remembered I'm not Jewish.  Ok, I'm an ex-Jew... I gave it up for lent.

  • The best quote of xmas had to come from my nephew, who asked the wife a question: "Do you get gift cards?" Yes. "Well, if you get any from Toys R Us, would you give them to me?"

There were a few neato mob brawls at malls over the holidays, including one in Ohio that resulted in a mall closing down. Hmmm... organized mobs.. at about a dozen malls... who's doing the organizing?

  • Men are from Mars, women are from Betelguese. We had some communication issues in our marriage that we straightened out, to great relief. However, my coworker and I are going to require 145 intensive sessions of Communication Marriage Therapy to be able to work just poorly with each other. The more we talk, the more my eyeballs try to look at each other and end up rolling like a slot machine. [this takes place over text messages]:
  • ME: put the red one on the green peg
  • HER: all I have is green
  • ME: yes, the green one. put it on the red peg
  • HER: ok. what about the fact that the peg is wood?
  • ME: they're all wood
  • HER: I'm so stupid
  • ME: why are you stupid?
  • HER: because I couldn't do yesterday's work
  • ME: the machine was down yesterday
  • HER: nobody told ME
  • ME: then you're not stupid, are you
  • HER: that's ok, I'm stupid about other things
  • ME: don't worry about it
  • HER: I have to - it's my nature
  • ME: ok, try to keep yourself up all night, worrying about it
  • HER: I will, thanks. now I'll shut up.
  • and people wonder why I wander up and down the aisles, laughing maniacally, cursing randomly, and banging my phone on the desk, like some sort of new-age morse code.

I wanted to get some stuff done today but I'm having some difficulty. I have a bit of a medical condition that comes and goes, generally in the morning. I asked the doctor what to do and he said to drink some caffeine-containing beverages. The medical condition, by the way, is called Tired, or as we know it, Tired. My coworkers cannot drink Mt Dew because it makes them fly around the room, frequently bumping into ceiling fans. It's a ($&#ing mess to clean, especially when it gets on your clothes. I can drink Mt Dew and feel absolutely nothing, either from sugar or caffeine. So I drink a cup of coffee every morning. It helps me wake up to the horror that will become my day. The only problem is that I run the risk of falling back to sleep for a few hours, which tends to be frowned upon, even for my friends in government. Yes, the doctor is flummoxed as to how caffeine can take up to four hours to be effective. I'll get up from my desk, pick up a pen, and start shaking wildly. This starts my own bouncing off the walls. Fortunately, due to fear of heights, I do not bounce all the way to the ceiling fans, much to my wife's dismay.

Nobody seems to have even a halfway decent answer to this question (why I don't make it to the ceiling).  They also can't figure out why coffee takes so long to take effect. As you'd expect, I have a theory. I always have a theory; usually waaaay out there in left field, so far out of the box that no one can find it, even with satellite assistance.  You see, I am asleep most of the time. Only when the caffeine hits am I awake. While I think I'm falling asleep, I'm actually already asleep. Another one solved, Holmes.

--------------------------------------------------------------

My wife just went for a nap. This causes some sort of quantum time warp where she sleeps but in our subjective reality, it can last anywhere from five minutes to sixteen hours (you think I'm kidding?). This is precisely why we cannot understand quantum physics, or Nap Physics, as we Nap Physicists prefer to call it.

After the subjective nap time has elapsed, she will emerge from her cave, looking 3/4 asleep, not having seen her shadow or me. If I say Good Morning, she may acknowledge me in a voice that would make a frog sound like Pavarotti. She'll tell me she came out for something to drink. When I ask if she's ready to get up, she tells me she's not done sleeping yet. This is either the most brilliant statement about sleep ever, or .....
